International Medical University (IMU), Kuala Lumpur – On May 28, Dr. Selina Chew, co-founder of Disruptive Doctors®, delivered an inspiring talk to 100 second-year medical students at IMU, sharing her journey from clinician to entrepreneur and her vision for transforming healthcare through innovation.
Dr. Selina began her session by acknowledging the initial skepticism from students, some of whom felt their time might be better spent studying. Undeterred, she embraced the challenge: “Entrepreneurship is the most difficult thing I’ve ever done,” she admitted. By being open and vulnerable, she captivated the audience, turning initial resistance into full engagement over the two-hour session.
Her journey into entrepreneurship was born from adversity-a slipped disc-that ended her aspirations of becoming an ICU specialist. Facing limited support during recovery, she was advised to leave her department, prompting a reevaluation of her career path.
This pivotal moment led to the creation of Disruptive Doctors®, a platform designed to empower physicians to impact healthcare differently by connecting with like-minded professionals, finding mentors, and accessing upskilling opportunities.
