‘A.S.K.S.’ Make a Good Aesthetic Physician a Great One!

What is it that an aesthetic physician brings to his/her profession that would make him/her a great practitioner in the field? Is it just about money or is it about helping a person feel good about themselves through the way they look? How an aesthetic doctor views his client is of crucial importance. Seeing the client first and foremost as a total being makes all the difference.

Speaking as an Aesthetic Physician with 15 years of experience, Doctor Lenzo Ling continues to ask himself the same questions every day. He’s come up with a formula which he guarantees will bring much success in the aesthetic field. It is contained in the acronym ASKS.

The right ATTITUDE, an innate SENSE of beauty, an in-depth KNOWLEDGE of the field and one’s area of expertise, and a high SKILLSET level are sure winners in the field, notes Dr. Ling.

When a doctor possesses a high skillset and in-depth knowledge in his/her area of expertise, he or she would probably fare a little above average in the field but an eye for beauty and the right attitude will put any aesthetic physician on top of his/her  game.

Clients in the aesthetic field often shop around looking for the best deals to enhance their looks. What makes a good aesthetic physician stand out from an average aesthetic physician is the courage to tell a client that they do not need a particular procedure because, for example, that their mono eyelid is perfect for their face compared to the double-eye lid they wish for themselves.

A true aesthetic physician has an honest appreciation for the beauty he/ she sees. Appreciating beauty, being true to oneself and being honest with a client counts in the field, especially in the long run.

If it’s only about the money, an aesthetic physician might do a procedure for a client that’s entirely unnecessary and does not add to their overall looks. But being true to oneself and doing the right thing always pays off.

Clients who are known for shopping around will invariably return to the physician to say, “I like you. You’re honest.” Or “I’ve consulted with many doctors but you’re the only one who’s upfront and honest with me.” These are the ones who will recommend the aesthetic physician’s services to friends and relatives. This has been Dr. Ling’s experience.

The aesthetic physician’s attitude must be one of serving. Humility not pomposity makes all difference. For instance, what’s the aesthetic physician’s attitude towards demanding patients who may not have realistic expectations?

How does an aesthetic doctor handle a person who’s in his/her office wanting to look gorgeous because their partner just left them for another person? Sometimes it’s not a procedure that’s needed but a listening ear. “In the end, I didn’t do anything, but I’ve helped them see the situation differently. Sure, I spent two hours with them and didn’t make any money, but I saw the person as a whole being and treated them that way. Isn’t that also a process of beautifying a person?” asks Dr. Ling.
